Purchasing a Framing Nailer 4 Years, 4 Months ago
I am looking at purchasing a Porter-Cable Framing Nailer. This is the first time I have ever looked into one of these (Yes I do have a Popeye like right forearm), and I have two questions.

First, is this a good quality tool or will I be replacing it in six months?

Second, should I get the clipped head or full round head gun?

Any and all responses will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi DanG;

I just purchased a Portor Cable Finish gun, and I got to tell you it was the worst piece of junk I every bought. I bought as a kit with compressor from Homo Depot and it would continue to fire nails afer I pulled the gun from the stock..real hairy. I took the gun back three times until I got one to worki!! I don't know about thier framing guns , but I have had good Luck with Paslode & Senco. You pay more but, it is the right choice. I have a Paslode _frame_r that is over twenty - five years and works great. The newer guns don't have the same quality, but I just bought a 16 gauge finish gun from Paslode , and I'm happy.
Regarding coil nailers or any sort....they suck. If your coil is not perfectly circular they bind.
Hope this helps.

Renovator,

Thanks for the input. I was also looking at the Porter Cable combo set at Home Depot. I think I may avoid it.

The set for sale at home depot is marketed as a "do it yourselfer" kind of kit. WHy else do you think you can get the whole kit for the price of a good gun? It's not meant for production use.

I own a Porter Cable Clipped Head framing nailer and haven't had one problem with it. I think it is a fine tool since I've used it for the year and a half. The reason for my purchase with the feel and weight of it.

I've used the Paslode impluse, _frame_r and finish but I saw on TV another type of cordless finish gun. I couldn't see the brand name but the colors were grey & black that lead me to believe it was Porter Cable, do they have a cordless finish gun, if so is it any good???
