Firing bad crew 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Okay, I need to fire this one guy, all he does is come up with excuses. One day he's sick, the next day his wife is sick, the day after that his truck is sick or was it his dog.

Anyway you get the idea, he's costing me money with his phony excuses. I have to pick up the slack for him, and my schedule is now way off.

Prolem: he's really well liked and known in town (small town), and I'm the new guy.

How do I get rid of this goldbrick without damaging my own reputation? I'm pretty sure he can badmouth me to the point where I'll find it hard to hire crew when I need to.

Suggestions appreciated, thanks.

Show him the time sheets and cost overrun figures, tell him you just can't afford him.

If he's as bad as you say, and as well known as you say, then everyone already knows he's useless. How badly can he ruin your rep if everyone knows he's a lazy bum? Let him talk. Treat the rest of your crew well and let them talk you up.

I say get rid of him..it's not worth the headache for you and I'm sure the rest of the crew will realize you did the right thing. If they don't I work for one of the top skilled trade staffing companies in the US and we can find you another guy temp or perm in any city with a quick turnaround time.
