Write about things that you know and are interested in.
For example, if you're a kitchen remodel specialist, and what really revvs your engine is the art of woodworking, then write about... woodworking!
Blog about the renovation you are doing. Complain how if only the customer would let you cut loose, you could turn out amazing cabinets, but nooooo, Mrs. X wants that cheesy pattern she saw in some magazine. Add a pic of what you are doing. Etcetera.
Blogging is just about having a conversation with your visitors. So talk about what you love. Believe me, there are plenty of people in the world who are interested in what you have to share.

When it comes to marketing yourself online time is of the essence.
There is basically 5 main ways to get traffic to your site and get ranking higher on google.
Traffic Generating _link_s (these _link_s really do not do much for SEO how ever they can bring loads of traffic to your site)
SERP Elevating _link_s (Mainly I'll focus on getting your sites SERP elevated by posting on blogs, forum posting,key directory listings, and when possible organic traffic from relevant pages)
Page ranking booster _link_s (This is sometimes a bit hard to do, since the higher the page rank for a site means the higher the quality of articles with a _link_ point back to your site must be. and most of the time people are just to cheap to pay for great content then wonder why their site is not improving.)
Rep _link_ing (This basically helps get you or your brand out there in the niche your in, I'll set up social accounts then start working on _link_ing them together along with your site, Getting your name or brand out there for that way your brand or name becomes known in the niche your working in)
Getting back-_link_s for your back-_link_s (many people fail to understand a _link_ is only as good as the people who see it, so if you just go out and get directory _link_s or comment on sloppy dofollow blogs that no one reads in hopes to trick google into thinking those _link_s are worth anything your fooling yourself, Google knows how many people are viewing the blog over all and I'm sure uses that in some way to weight how much _link_ juice the _link_ should give.)
I find it much easier to hire someone to do this for me and the excerpt from above is from my SEO friends Ad.(does work really cheap for me)

But the main key to it is time, and getting _link_s pointing to yoursite with useful keywords. Think like your clients 60% of people use google and other search engines over the traditional phone book.
What will your client most likely type into the search box?
You do not need to list to 100's of directories most do not give your site any real _link_ juice.
Write articles for the field your in and offer them to a BIG and WELL known blog for free if they just _link_ back to you, google loves the authority sites.
Put your company website in your sig's

1. As someone else said, write about what you know and can share. But you want to do some keyword research to make sure you are using keywords that others are searching for. Try playing around with Google's keyword tool.
